Death can arguably be considered the most significant event in human life, one about which we suffer from both a lack of information and experience, and which we also fear and dread. These two factors seem to have led us to use indirect and euphemistic methods to express this unknown and frightening phenomenon, the most prominent of which are metaphor and metonymy. The present study investigates the metaphorical and metonymic conceptualizations of death in the poems of Fereydoon Moshiri. The research data were drawn from Moshiri's published poems in the two collections “Az Khāmooshi” (From Silence) and “Gonāh-e Daryā” (The Sin of the Sea), and the data analysis was based on Conceptual Metaphor Theory (Lakoff & Johnson, 1980) and Chartris-Black’s approach (2004). The findings reveal that the dominant conceptualization in Moshiri's attitude toward death is the conceptual key "Death as Departure," which is reflected in various conceptual metaphors. Additionally, the conceptual metaphors "Death as Sleep," "Death as Intoxication," and "Death as a Person," as well as the conceptual metonymy "Death as the Decay of the Body," represent other euphemistic ways of conceptualizing death in Fereydoon Moshiri's poetry.
